Description
180 years ago, this was not the center of the city. It's hard to imagine, but Claithmonos Square on the northern outskirts of Athens, was an untidy plot of land and few houses. In 1833, the house of Stamatios Dekozis Vouros was built, which today houses the Museum of the City of Athens and a little later it was joined with the neighboring house of Afthonidis. Otto, the first king of Greece, settled in this complex after he married the 18-year-old Amalia. The young queen was the one who organized the garden around the couple's temporary residence in 1836. The "Garden of the Old Palace" was the first public garden of the capital, with four entrances, a fountain and a cistern with goldfish. It included today's Klathmonos Square and reached as far as Kolokotroni Square. The current garden of the Museum of the City of Athens is only a small part of that big garden. But it remains a unique little oasis in the center of Athens, with the palm tree planted by Amalia still alive. Now, Black Duck Multiplarte brings its experience here and welcomes you to an open space in the heart of the city. With respect to the historical and natural environment, the Black Duck Garden - Athens City Museum Bistrot awaits you in the summer in the garden, but also all year round in the special area of the atrium, to offer you the well-known hospitality of the "Black Duck".
